My Story

Back in 2017 whilst on a camping trip to Cornwall, I emerged from my tent to the glorious sight of a Suzuki Carry parked up on the campsite with a queue of early bird campers and the combined aroma of fresh ground coffee and sea air. This was the first time I ever witnessed a coffee van in the wild and I knew then and there that it was the life for me. I returned home to Ayrshire and bought my van immediately. My van first served as my mini home away from home for the occasional camping and surfing trip to Cornwall and Machrihanish.

While still following my passion for coffee, I found myself in the position of Store Manager in a popular coffee shop.

Fast forward a couple of years to the global crisis known as 2020 and like many I was unfortunate enough to lose my job - however for me this was more of an alignment of the stars. It was finally time to put my mobile coffee dreams into action. I spent close to a year researching and self building my little DIY coffee van. With my van good to go and a number of years experience running a busy coffee shop under my belt, it just felt right.

Locally Sourced

When it came to sourcing my supplies locally, I didn’t just stop at the coffee beans. All of the baked goods and even the milk for drinks come from Ayrshire. Buying a coffee from Ground Control is an excellent way to support a handful of Ayrshire businesses all at once.
